Diamonds come in different forms, sizes, shapes and colors. Though each one is unique and spectacular in its own way, there are certain diamonds that particularly stand out from the crowd. In fact, over the years, there are diamonds that have gained recognition across the globe.

  • The Great Star of Africa – Also named the Cullinan, this diamond is known to be the largest cut diamond in the world. It is a 3,106-carat, pear shaped stone with 74 facets. The diamond was discovered in Transvaal, South Africa in 1905, and in 1907 it was presented to King Edward VII of England.
  • The Tiffany Diamond – Deemed as the largest diamond on display in the US, the Tiffany Diamond is one of the largest yellow diamonds in the world. The stone weighs 287.42 carats and was found in 1878 at the Kimberly mine in South Africa. When Charles Tiffany purchased it, he cut it into a 128.54 carat custom cut with 82 facets. He then put it on display as his jewelry company, Tiffany and Co.
  • Mountain of Light – Also called the Koh-I-Noor, this 105.60-carat gem is now a part of the British Crown Jewels. The diamond is an oval cut gem that was discovered in 1304. Its original weight was 186 carats, and it has been part of history for many years. Throughout the centuries, the diamond has been coveted and captured during wars, until the British claimed the diamond and presented it to Queen Victoria.
  • The Orloff – Sometimes spelled as Orlov, this precious stone has several versions of its history. The Orloff diamond weighs 300 carats with a slightly bluish green color and a mogul-cut. It is said to have come from India when a French deserter stole it and went to Madras to sell it. The stone then reached Amsterdam and Russian count Grigori Orloff, who purchased it to present as a gift to Catherine the Great.
  • The Hope Diamond – The 45.52-carat stone is said to be the most popular diamond in the US. The gem was discovered back in the 1600’s and is now on display at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.
